Hi penguin pals! No time for banter in this post, we’ve got something important to cover if you want to play in Offline Mode on Club Penguin Island on your Windows PC or Mac. When you open up Club Penguin Island tomorrow, you will end up stuck on this screen with the launcher…

Familiar, right? Except this time, it isn’t loading the game at all… #awkward. Don’t worry, here’s what you need to do on your computer to let you play the game again.

How to fix Club Penguin Island in Offline Mode

The problem

When Club Penguin Island was updated to version 1.13.0, Offline Mode was added. After December 21st, this allows you to pick up the game exactly where you left off. For players on mobile, you can open the game as you normally would – this won’t apply to you. For players on desktop, there is an issue with the launcher.

The launcher was last updated before it was known that Club Penguin Island was to be closed. This meant that it was not made to work when Club Penguin Island is taken down. When you open the launcher, it checks Club Penguin Island’s servers to see if you’re on the latest version of the game or not. If you are, it opens the game. If you aren’t, it updates the game. When you have no internet connection, it tells you that.

Now that the servers are offline, the launcher doesn’t know what to do, so it shows you the Club Penguin Island logo while it waits… although it will never get a response. Reminds me of when I send a text message. Don’t worry – we can still get to the game. The game is within the launcher’s files, so don’t worry, we can easily get to them.

Skip to Windows PCSkip to macOS

Windows PC

  • Right-click on your computer’s desktop (choose somewhere without any icons)
  • Select New > Shortcut.
  • You’ll be asked for location of the item. Enter:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Club Penguin Island\Client\ClubPenguinIsland.exe

Tip: Copy and paste this so you can enter it exactly as it’s seen here!

  • Press Next. You’ll then be asked to give the shortcut a name.
    • This can’t be “Club Penguin Island”, since the launcher already uses that.
    • Some suggested names are: CPI Game, CP Island, CPI Offline.
  • Click on your new shortcut whenever you want to play in Offline Mode!

  • Open Finder and select Applications in the left sidebar.
  • Hold down Ctrl and click on Club Penguin Island.
    • Select “Show Package Contents”.
  • You’re now inside the launcher, and should see an application called Client.
    • Drag Client to Applications in the left sidebar.

You can now access Club Penguin Island from Launchpad by choosing Client instead of Club Penguin Island whenever you want to play in Offline Mode! If you’d like to rename Client to something more familiar…

  • Open Finder and select Applications in the left sidebar.
  • Hold down Ctrl and click on Client.
  • Select “Rename”, and enter a new name for the game client.
    • This can’t be “Club Penguin Island”, since the launcher already uses that.
    • Some suggested names are: CPI Game, CP Island, CPI Offline.
  • When you want to open the game in Launchpad, choose the new name you just created.

Now you’re all setup to play in Offline Mode. But wait! There’s something else you should know. Now that Club Penguin Island is offline, some new settings have opened up in the Debug menu. If you can’t remember how to get there, here’s a help page on how to do it.

One of these new settings is Data. This new setting allows you to take a copy of all your penguin’s information to keep it safe forever, just in case anything happens, or you get a new computer – stuff like that. I’d recommend that the first thing you do in Offline Mode is do this, just in case. Here’s a helpful guide for doing this.

How to export Club Penguin Island data in Offline Mode

Please note: This does not work for Club Penguin Island on mobile devices, only PC/Mac.

The problem

Sometimes the game can be a little… unreliable. In case anything happens, I want you to be prepared. Taking a backup of your penguin’s information (we call this an export) now means that you have a copy of it safe, which you can import to the game whenever you need it. You might want to follow this guide every so often, so everything you do on the Island – like your new igloos and clothes, stay safe.

All platforms

  • Open up the Debug Menu
  • Select Data and then Export
  • In Username, enter your Disney account username you used to login to Club Penguin Island when it was online.
    • Remember, this might be different from your penguin name.
    • Forgotten your username already?! Go to this page, and then select “Disney, ESPN, ABC and Star Wars accounts”. Press “Need help signing in?” and follow the process. It’ll show you a list of all Disney account usernames under your e-mail address.
  • Once you’ve done that…
    • Press Invoke. Your penguin account data will be copied to your clipboard.

Now you need somewhere to save this. I’ve made a quick tool you can use to paste in your account data and then save it to your computer. Keep the file name as it is – it’s got your penguin name and the date in it, so you know when it’s from. Keep it safe in cloud storage, on a USB stick, and/or on an external hard drive. I hope this makes saving your data from Club Penguin Island a bit easier.

Click here to visit the Offline Mode Data Saver tool

Be patient when pasting in your account data – it’s a lot to paste, so wait for it to show up before pressing the Save Penguin Data button.

If you don’t know how to paste, it’s Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac.

The island lives on with you in Offline Mode.

I really hope this post helped you get ready for Offline Mode on Club Penguin Island. If you found this helpful, please share it with your friends! I want all of you to be able to continue to enjoy Club Penguin Island for years and years to come. If any of these instructions did not work, please leave a comment below and I’ll be on hand to help.

Soon, we’ll be sharing our Club Penguin farewell finale content – I just wanted to get this out there to you guys first so you can start playing on Offline Mode as soon as it’s out. Until next time, penguin family!

Waddle on!

Update: December 24th 2018

Hi everyone. I’m glad this post has been able to help so many of you access Offline Mode on your PC/Mac. There’s been a few common issues popping up in the comments, and I’ll try to address as many as I can here. I appreciate there have been a lot of comments since active product support for Club Penguin Island has been discontinued.

  • If you are getting the error “The file C:/Program cannot be found.”, this means that either: the location of your game installation is different to what is set as default; you installed the game in a language other than English; or you did not install the Club Penguin Island game at all.
    • If you know that you downloaded the Club Penguin Island game in any language through the launcher between November 5th and December 20th, please leave a comment (or ask a parent to leave a comment) and I will get in touch via e-mail to help you.
  • Under no circumstances will The Islanders be providing the installer for the Club Penguin Island game – Offline Mode is a gift to those who supported the game in its lifetime, not anyone who wants to play everything for free.

Thank you for being part of the Club Penguin Island community. Penguins will keep waddling after this – stay tuned to this blog for more information soon. Waddle on, everyone!

Update: March 10th 2019

There’s been SO many comments on this post that I’ve absolutely lost track. I’ll do my best to help everyone at a later time.

superlight34 ⋅ Mar 17 @ 3:06 PM

Hi! Can you double-check that you have the final 1.13.0 version of Club Penguin Island? You can check the version in Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If it is not 1.13.0, you won’t have your penguin saved from the original game, but you can get back on the Island by getting version 1.13.0 from your Purchased apps on the App Store. Otherwise, if it is 1.13.0, make sure you haven’t got Airplane Mode or anything on by mistake.

Sup, DJ for some reason, whenever a mission wants me to go to the designer to put on a piece of clothing, the designer shop infinite loads, is there any way to fix this?

Pinkierose53 ⋅ Dec 06 @ 9:48 PM

Hi there! This happens when you use Quick Jackpot on Windows. Try creating a new penguin in Offline Mode to fix this.

    Dj Stores ⋅ Apr 17 @ 12:33 AM

Hi DJ Stores, kind of funny, I didn’t really look at any of your blog posts until way after CPI went offline, LOL! Anyway, recently I have been using the offline mode for good use doing all the missions that I once haven’t been able to do, being a non member and all, its great to see that even though cpi may of gone offline, we are still all together! Also just wondering, what kind of games have you gotten into recently Dj! Thanks so much for making club penguin a great adventure for all us penguins!

Rocket598 ⋅ Apr 08 @ 3:38 PM

Hey Rocket! It’s so good to hear from you. I’m actually still playing Club Penguin Island, haha. I spent the last few months creating a game server for everyone to play together again on CPI (there’s a link on the homepage if you’d like to check it out). But I’ve also been trying new games like Fortnite with friends from CP and random little mobile games – there’s a fun one I play occasionally called “Bacon – The Game”. Yes, it’s as fun as it sounds.
I’m glad you’re making the most of Offline Mode, and thank you for your kind words. I’ll never forget all of your crazy amazing igloos you made as a non-member! Hopefully you’ve added The Golden Grater that you deserve using Debug Mode! Thank you for sharing so many great memories with me. What sort of games have you been playing since the closure? Hope to hear from you again soon. :)

    Dj Stores ⋅ Apr 09 @ 1:36 AM

Hi again Dj! Yes I was going to put the golden crater in my igloos, until I realized that all my igloos had maximum items, so I had a tough time choosing which item to get rid of, LOL! As in games I have been playing, after closure I have been using much of my time playing my Nintendo switch, especially Smash Ultimate which came out around the same time as the closure of CPI. I have just attempted to start to create my CPIF account at my school, (hopefully it works (unlike Club Penguin Rewritten :( ) I hope that it will work so I can play with you guys during my spare at school.

      Rocket598 ⋅ Apr 09 @ 4:08 PM

Hi DJ, how do I import this file if the game forgets my account?

Flipperdude ⋅ Feb 19 @ 7:20 PM

Select all contents (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A), copy all contents to clipboard (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C), open up CPI, press ~ to open Debug Mode, hit Data, then hit Import, and finally hit Invoke. If you did it right, it’ll go green. Then with your original Disney username and absolutely anything as the password. Boom! You’re back on the Island!

    Dj Stores ⋅ Apr 12 @ 5:06 AM

I went onto my IPad and it said theer is a network connection. I had my home wifi, and I tried a few days later, it’s still doesn’t work today. What’s going on?

Marcillena ⋅ Feb 01 @ 5:50 PM

Network Connection Error? You might not have the Waddle On update (and that means you have lost all penguin data). If you do have the Waddle On update, ensure the date on your device is set correctly. Offline Mode is completely cut off from Disney servers.

    Dj Stores ⋅ Apr 12 @ 5:08 AM

Moonka ⋅ Jan 23 @ 11:29 AM

Hi DJ Stores, I tried to submit a comment yesterday but I’m not sure it went through. I’m sorry if I’m duplicating the message. I’ve been able to access CPI offline on PC thanks to this blog but recently it’s stopped working. Now the login does not work. I get a message “Connection Error, Sorry! The Island could be full, but spots open up quickly. Try again?”. But clicking Reconnect just freezes on the loading screen forever with the loading icon spinning. I’ve tried lots of things today via debug mode and some crazy things are happening! Do you think you can help at all please? Would you mind emailing me and I can explain more? Thanks so much.

Noah802 ⋅ Jan 17 @ 7:42 PM

Hey Noah! I’m so sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier. This bug can be caused by accidentally entering something into the Game Server setting in Debug Mode. Go to Debug Mode > Network > Game Server, and make sure it’s totally empty with nothing in there. After that, it should let you back into Offline Mode as normal. I hope this helps!!!

    Dj Stores ⋅ Jan 20 @ 3:09 AM

Hey DJ stores, thanks for the advice. It helped me to get back onto my account. My computer is old and glitchy, and CPI doesn’t open on full screen anymore, so please could you let me know if that can be fixed? Hopefully I will get a new computer soon so please could you let me know how to reinstall CPI onto a new computer? Thanks! Waddle On!!! -noah802

      noah802 ⋅ Jan 26 @ 3:24 PM

Try changing the aspect ratio in Graphics settings to 4:3 and then back to your normal aspect ratio, then set the resolution on the maximum size. I have this issue but it’s sadly something that has to be done manually.

      Dj Stores ⋅ Jan 29 @ 9:23 PM

Hi DJ Stores, Thanks for all your help. Are you able to tell me how to move my CPI offline onto a new computer (PC) please? Today my old computer wouldn’t turn on at all. djsair23 ⋅ Dec 27 @ 1:05 AM

Keep the data export file safe. When you move computer, you can pick up where you left off by copying the entire contents of that file to your clipboard, going to Data > Import in the Debug menu and entering your Disney account username. Please note that doing this will overwrite any existing data, so I don’t recommend doing it on your main computer.

Hey hey! I played CPI through Mac, but I have the 1.10.2 update, not the most recent. I’ve been playing CP since 2008 and CPI since it came out. It’s not recognizing me when I try to log in. It says incorrect password and such, and I am unable to create a new account. What should I do? I’ve been a member on this account many times and would hate to throw that all away.

ubermrjon ⋅ Dec 26 @ 5:06 AM

Hi. If you didn’t download, install and play on the 1.13.0 update before the closure of the game, you’ve lost your penguin forever and can’t get the latest version of the game.

Hi! Don’t worry – I’m here to help. I’ll get in touch with you to help you with this. Thank you for updating the game before it went offline.

    Dj Stores ⋅ Dec 24 @ 10:58 PM

I downloaded the PC version of the game last year, but I haven’t updated it since then. Is there any way I can find a workaround or update it somehow? The game launches like normal, but it won’t let me log into my account. I also have the game on my iPad, but I seem to have the same issue.

Sam ⋅ Dec 24 @ 4:07 PM

If you haven’t updated the game on PC/Mac since last year, you can’t update it now. You cannot log into your Disney account on the game now that it has gone offline. If you want to play, you need to have the last ever update of the game – which includes Offline Mode. Is the game updated on your iPad?

    Dj Stores ⋅ Dec 24 @ 5:24 PM

No, I don’t. When I went to check the app store, the update appeared, but disappeared shortly after. Is there a way to find that update, or am I just stuck with the older version on my iPad and PC?

      Sam ⋅ Dec 24 @ 6:02 PM

Hi Sam. On your iPad, if you delete Club Penguin Island first, then go to your Purchased apps in the App Store, you should be able to re-install the game on the latest version. I advise you check it’s there in your Purchased before deleting the app first.
You’ll then be on version 1.13.0 which includes the Waddle On Party and Offline Mode. Please note that you will lose your penguin from when the game was online and will have to start over again by creating an account in Offline Mode. The username you choose in Offline Mode will also be set as your penguin name.
We do not provide the installers for version 1.13.0 on PC/Mac.

      Dj Stores ⋅ Dec 24 @ 10:56 PM

Hello there! I have the shortcut and everything already and such, however I haven’t logged into my account for awhile now and when I attempt to play the game it brings up an error stating “Sorry! We are unable to update/create an account right now. Please try again later.” Did I do something wrong in the process?

Splat Chris ⋅ Dec 24 @ 4:12 AM

It sounds like the game is still trying to connect to the Disney account service, which has now been taken offline for Club Penguin Island. Did you install the last ever update (1.13.0) through the launcher before the end of the game, and login to your account on your computer after November 5th? I’m unable to help if you simply haven’t installed the version of the game which includes Offline Mode at all.

Hey, I’ve got a problem. Basically everything I’ve created and purchased in the Designer and Catalog post-Waddle On party is missing on desktop on my main account, and a few things are missing on my side account. Everything is there on mobile. Do you know how I can get everything back?

Rosa541 ⋅ Dec 21 @ 9:36 PM

Hi Rosa. Your penguin’s inventory and more (we call this data) was only saved to your device when you logged in on it. Anything you did after your final login on a device while the game was online was not saved to your computer. Unfortunately, the data export does not work on mobile, otherwise I’d be able to help. I’d advise making sure you keep your mobile devices backed up so everything there is safe – but sadly, things can’t be transferred between desktop and mobile. I’m really, really sorry.

Dan ⋅ Dec 21 @ 8:58 PM

Hi Dan. Your penguin’s data was only saved to your device when you logged in to the Waddle On update (1.13.0) before the closure of the game. If you played in Offline Mode, you’d have to start all over again, and you had two months to update your game client to 1.13.0.

    Dj Stores ⋅ Dec 22 @ 1:16 AM

Hi. I played the Waddle On party on mobile. It work and everything but the debug mode is to tiny. I wanted to update my client but the servers where already offline so i couldn’t download it. I only need the assets for the PC version so I can play.

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us play offline. It’s really appreciated, especially since it’s still the full game, just offline!

It’s the Club Penguin Island team you should be thanking! They’re absolute heroes for making Offline Mode. I made this guide since there’s a bug with getting to Offline Mode, so I hope it helped you out. Waddle on!

hey can yu show how can i do on ipad the same thing

Hi kingcp111! You don’t need to do any setup for Offline Mode on your iPad. Sadly, you’re not able to export your data with Debug Mode on iOS or Android, so if you want to keep your penguin safe, you’ll need to backup your device. Most iPads will automatically backup to iCloud for you – just make sure it remembers your penguin data!
